Shell Signs Multi-Year Deal with Team Penske

Shell has just confirmed a new partnership in the world of North American racing, teaming up with Team Penske in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series, as well as in the IZOD IndyCar Series. The partnership will start in 2011 and will last for at least two years, as stated in a press release issued by Team Penske.

Shell Oil Company and Penske Corporation announce a multi-year cross business alliance starting in the 2011 racing season,” said the release.

The new alliance allows Shell and Pennzoil to expand their motorsports presence as it includes a primary sponsorship with 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion, Kurt Busch and the No. 22 car, as well as associate sponsorships promoting Shell V-Power with IZOD IndyCar Series drivers Helio Castroneves, Will Power and Ryan Briscoe,” added the document.

Busch, whose contract with Team Penske was recently renewed, will be sponsored by Shell starting the 2011 season, while his current No 2 Dodge Penske – which will be driven by Brad Keselowski next season in the Sprint Cup Series – will be transferred the Miller Lite sponsor.

Shell's partnership with Team Penske means that the famous oil company will no longer be involved with Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR series from 2011 onwards, this being the second major sponsor RCR loses in two years time (Jack Daniels left the boat last season). Additionally, their partnership with Team Penske's IndyCar organization means the latter will no longer have Mobil 1 as their official backer.

As part of the alliance, Pennzoil will become the "Official Motor Oil" of Penske Racing in 2011 which includes all of its entries in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series as well as the IZOD IndyCar Series,” continued the statement from Team Penske.

The global business alliance provides an opportunity for Shell and Pennzoil to expand their presence not only within motorsports, but also as a preferred supplier of fuels, lubricants and related products to the Penske organization. Beginning in 2011, Shell and Pennzoil will be the "Official Fuel and Motor Oil Supplier" to the Penske organization in the U.S and the organizations will look to extend their alliance with business development opportunities in several other countries.
