Shelby GT500 Mustang, Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and C7 Z06 Duke it Out Loud

In The Sound of Music musical drama, Julie Andrews tells us that the hills are alive with the sound of music. Now replace hills with headphones and music with force-fed vee-eight thunder. That’s more like it!

What we’re served with in the adjacent video is a match made in heaven: 2014 Shelby GT500 Mustang, 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. There’s a lot going for the 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang, but if you prefer supercharging, these three bad boys are the hottest muscle cars of the moment.

On this occasion, we won’t talk about 1/4-mile times at how many miles per hour. The badges they’re wearing or the sticker prices are also unimportant. Today we’re offered with the four-wheeled version of the Bill Evans trio. Instead of a piano, bass and drum kit, the music you’ll hear next isn’t modal jazz, but mechanical a cappella.

In the yellow corner, we have the C7 Z06 singing its 650 HP and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) song through no less than four exhaust pipes. In the black we have a fantabulous Shelby GT500 stretching the legs of its Trinity V8 on idle. As for the Sublime Green corner, this is where you’ll find the SRT Hellcat transforming high-octane gasoline into 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of twist.

After turning the volume up to 11 and pressing play, how would you classify the three stooges in terms of aural badassery? From a subjective point of view, the Hellcat does it for us with its extremely sonorous and deep burble. On a very close second comes the Z06 and its gloriously raspy eight-cylinder tone. Last but certainly not least, the Shelby GT500 is a true baritone.
