While the toy car industry is expanding as fast as the bicycle one, some people out there still believe they can do a better job themselves. It’s the case of this Chinese man from Shanghai who built his own 60cm (23inch) long mini car designed with all the features of a full toy electric car.
60-year old native from Shanghai Xu Zhiyun has always enjoyed creating things by hand. He built a steering device for the family’s TV and even sewed his own clothes at home. But none of his projects compares to this vehicle. It might be 60 cm (23inch) long, 35 cm (13 inch) wide and 40 cm (15inch) tall, but this this little freak is not a toy car.

The mini car has an engine, an accelerator, brakes and gear systems, it basically has everything a normal car would have. Besides the basic machinery, it is also equipped with front and rear lights, a horn and a sound system.

According to China Daily, it took Xu two year to make the car and it cost him 1,500 yuan (about $250), but he claims the best part was the process of creating it. The only question we have is whether the mini car is street legal or not. Even if it’s not, we’re pretty sure it could easily win the big prize at any amateur innovation contest.

PS: there is something about Chinese people and their home-made vehicles. When it’s not about carving wood and creating replicas of all sorts of luxury models, then they will definitely opt for the small and efficient vehicles.
