One of General Motors’ Chinese joint ventures has launched their own electric vehicle at the 2012 Guangzhou Auto Show yesterday. It’s called the Sail Springo EV, and it’s based on an existing hatchback design
The electric car is powered by a 118 bhp (88 KW) motor which develops 220 Nm of toruqe. The EV can reach a top speed of 130 kmph and the range on a full charge is 130 km.
There’s only one driving mode, but a “Sport” button proved 20% better acceleration momentarily, allowing the Sail to reach 100 km/h in just 10.4 seconds. The battery pack has a capacity of 22 KWh and it takes around 7 hours for a full charge on a household 220V outlet.
“Production of the Sail SPRINGO EV is an important milestone in Shanghai GM's ‘Drive to Green’ product strategy”, said Shanghai GM President Ye Yongming. “It demonstrates Shanghai GM's success in the pursuit of electrification and other eco-friendly technologies for the benefit of our customers.”
