SUV drivers are not very popular people in cities, where their oversized barges can damage other vehicles. And if it happens to be a VW Tiguan with a TDI engine (most of them are diesels) Greenpeace might come and egg your car.
In fact, if we had a TDI engine, we'd remove the badges, just to be safe. But the driver of this Tiguan is getting hate for entirely different reasons. It's a German commercial aimed at deterring you from using a smartphone while driving.

This time, they don't show little puppies getting smashed or the life of an entire family being tragically cut short. A scene plays out where a man in a Tiguan and a sexy blonde in a Beetle Convertible are driving alongside. With Audis and Skoda in the background, it's a genuine VW-fest here.

The antagonist is texting something on his phone and nearly crashes into the Beetle as a result. At the traffic lights, the woman finally gets out of her car and while it appears she wants to flirt, she has other plans.

Shortly after showing him some cleavage and making him think he's getting lucky, the blonde slaps some sense into the texting driver.

If you think about it, the idea is pretty clever. Men don't fear death in cars because they have confidence in their driving skills. However, getting rejected by the woman of your dreams is worse than getting stabbed.

A young automotive club called Mobile in Germany (they made the videos) has conducted a study and found 77.1% of the 2,000 people they asked admitted to using smartphones while driving. Even worse, more than half do it frequently.

The most popular distraction sources wee WhatsApp (16.4%), the navigation system (13.5%), making calls (10.5%), SMS (9%) and Facebook with 8.6%. Even the dreaded selfie made the list with 7.7%.
