Seven-Year Old Chased by Plain City Police

A not so often seen chase took place last Sunday on the streets of Plain City, Weber County, after the local sheriff's department received a call warning authorities of a "small", reckless driver on the streets of the city.

The 45 mph (74 km/h) chase had started near the local high-school and lasted for some ten blocks, until the driver decided to stop, exit the car and run.

"The deputies at one time had pulled up kinda close to him on the side and could see it was a very small... person driving the car," Lt. Matthew Bell, Weber County Sheriff's Office told KSL 5 TV.

Even if the police officer chasing the suspect on the streets expected something... unusual to come out of the car, he must have been surprised to see a small child opening the car door and running off inside a building.

When the dust settled, the police officers were able to find out the young driver was not running because of another felony committed somewhere else, but because he did not like the idea of accompanying his parents to the local church. Why? It was too hot for church, he says.

The child took his parents' car and, despite the fact he had height-related problems in reaching the pedals, managed to travel all the ten blocks to his home, without getting into any incident. Despite the fact it was Sunday morning and the streets were virtually empty, we must admit this is no easy feat.

What will happen to the boy? Well, nothing, apparently, as he is too young to be charged with anything. We are sure however he turned into somewhat of a celebrity in his native town and as you can see for yourselves, Lt. Bell seems pretty pleased about the chase himself...
