One of Daimler's bus brands will take four vintage vehicles to this year's Retro Classics, one of which is a Mercedes-Benz O 3500 coach with Kässbohrer body and sliding steel sunroof from the year 1951, the year in which Setra buses and coaches with unibody construction were officially born.
Coincidentally, it is said that the apparition of this very same bus had persuaded Otto Kässbohrer to develop the unibody coach to production maturity and start the Setra bus and coach brand in Ulm.
The other three vintage coaches to be presented at Retro Classics are part of the first model series of Setra unibody buses.
The Setra S 8 model was actually the first ever touring coach with a unibody design built in German series production, ushering a new era for the bus world with features that nowadays are taken for granted, like an aerodynamic body and a rear-mounted engine.
Three such models will be brought by Setra at Retro Classics, to take place from 13 to 16 March 2014, one of which was manufactured in 1951.
