Sergio Perez Signs 2010 Deal with Barwa Addax for GP2 Series

Sergio Perez is apparently putting his dream of debuting in Formula One in 2010 on hold, as the Mexican driver has recently been confirmed as official race driver for Barwa Addax Team in the GP2 Main Series. Perez will therefore make a return to Barwa next year, as he previously debuted for the team in the GP2 Asia Series last season.

The 19-year old has two wins under his belt for Barwa, but only in the Asian series. As for the European version of the GP2 championship, Perez did a full season last year for Arden team, highlighting 2 podium finishes in Valencia.

Following a good sponsorship scheme backing him into European single-seater competitions, Sergio Perez was one of the names rumored to fight for an F1 spot next year with one of the newly-entrant teams. Campos Grand Prix seemed to be his best option, only the Spanish team chose former GP2 runner-up Bruno Senna as rookie driver for their 2010 campaign.

As a result, Perez chose to secure his future in the GP2 Series with one of the best teams in the series – whose drivers Romain Grosjean and Vitaly Petrov competed throughout the 2009 season for the series' title – and gain more experience for a potential F1 entry in 2011.

“Addax, apart from being a great working atmosphere characteristic of the Latin temperament, also has a great team of professionals who work tirelessly to find excellence and are technically the most competitive team that I have been able to work with,” said Perez after signing the deal.

“This will be the most important season of my career because I really think that I will have options of fighting for the title at the end of the championship. I hope to get some good results this year, which will give me the experience necessary to move up towards the ultimate objective, a future in Formula 1,” added the Mexican driver.
