Senna's Seat at Campos Is Safe under New Management

The fact that Campos Grand Prix has underwent some major management changes during the past few days will reportedly not change Bruno Senna's status within the team. The nephew of 3-time world champion Ayrton Senna has signed an initial one-year deal with the Spanish team ever since last year, but his presence in the 2010 F1 roster was uncertain due to his team's unstable financial situation.

A couple of days ago, it was reported that Spanish billionaire Jose Ramon Carabante had taken over the majority stake in the Spanish team, appointing Colin Kolles as new team principal of Campos Grand Prix. And the first thing the Romanian-born principal did after taking on that role was to assure the media a new line-up would be confirmed in due time.

Consequently, Senna met with Carabante and Kolles on the former's yacht in Alicante – according to Brazilian publication Globo – and set up the terms for their future collaboration. According to the aforementioned source, Senna will not be asked to bring in more sponsorship money for the season to come, although Senna was suggested that further finance “would be welcome.”

As part of his initial deal with the team, Senna's contract was supposed to be supported by his sponsors, not his team. Consequently, Campos Grand Prix were exempted from paying him a salary throughout the 2010 season, while in turn Senna was not obliged to bring in sponsorship money for the team.

Following Carabante's takeover of Campos GP, two more drivers have stepped into the rumor mill for the vacant seat at the Spanish team. Current US F1 racer Jose Maria Lopez and GP2 driver Karun Chandhok were both linked with a deal in recent days. The former is expected to announce his plans for the future later today.
