Bruno Senna moved on from his disappointing experience with Brawn GP and began testing with Mercedes in the DTM. The Brazilian driver was strongly linked with a move to the German series with the aforementioned manufacturer ever since it was clear that he wouldn't debut in Formula One with the Brackley-based team.

Senna, who was runner-up in the GP2 Series last year, admitted his only chance of joining F1 in the future would be by staying with an F1 manufacturer in another racing series. Therefore, he got his first taste of the Mercedes C-Klasse DTM yesterday, on the Hockenheim circuit – venue to host the season opener in the series.

Although admitting he is yet to sign a deal with the German manufacturer for the 2009 season, Senna confirmed he is to conclude another day of testing on the C-Klasse later today.

“It has been fun so far and I have enjoyed getting onto the pace quite quickly in this car. I don't underestimate the level of competition in the DTM though. It is a great series, high profile and good wheel to wheel racing,” said Senna.

“There is much to discuss but that close racing and focus on outright speed in this category could suit me very well and could certainly be one new experience that can add value to my career as I aim for F1 in the future,” added the Brazilian driver.

Norbert Haug, Mercedes motorsport director, reckoned that these two days of testing were offered to Senna only to check his level of competitiveness on a DTM car. The German official revealed that a future job offer for Senna will be discussed in the days to come. Mercedes have already confirmed their entire lineup for the 2009 DTM season, for both works' and customer teams.

“Today, Bruno Senna got his first whiff of DTM air and he enjoyed it. He'll be testing again tomorrow and then we'll all sit down and decide what happens next,” concluded Haug.
