Sena Reveals the Smart Helmet with Intelligent Noise Control

Sena is a well-known name in the Bluetooth intercom and action camera business, but the company is now taking a bold step in the motorcycle helmet market as well. Sena reveals their own smart helmet, the world's first Intelligent Noise Control lid.

Riders know that prolonged exposure to high levels of noise causes fatigue and decreases comfort. The doctors know even better that sound pressure levels (SPL) over 100 decibels (dB) can cause hearing problems, and in certain cases, even permanent damage.

Sena's smart helmet comes with an array of no less than four microphones that analyze exterior sounds in real time. They feed into a smart controller that calculated the exact phase adjustments needed to cancel the harmful noises.

The Ambient mode filters the unwanted noise but lets important things get through

Riders can also toggle the Ambient Mode function that lets important sounds pass through to the wearer's ears. Conversations, sirens, oncoming traffic and similar sounds can be heard when the Ambient Mode is engaged, without taking off the helmet.

Obviously, the Sena Smart Helmet can be equipped with the company's top-of-the-line Bluetooth communication system that allows riders to interact with others, their Bluetooth-enabled navigation systems or smartphones, and of course, listen to music, if they so choose.

The shell of Sena's Smart Helmet is made from high-performance carbon fiber weave. It sports maximal strength with minimal weight, favoring impact energy distribution. The internal structure comprises an EPS liner, adjustable multi-zone foam pads and variable ventilation ports. The head liner and the cheek pads are removable and washable, too.

Sena offers the Smart Helmet in five colors, Black, White, Natural Carbon Fiber, Hi-Viz Yellow, and Silver. No word on the price, yet, but we can expect it to slot under $800 when it becomes available in early 2016.
