Public transport is great, and if more people were to use it, cities would be considerably less-crowded. However, some people don’t use a city’s public transport network, because they simply can’t reach the exact locations they want to reach, so they use their car and clog up the roads.
One answer would be a folding bicycle, which could be easily transported, then unfolded into shape in a matter of seconds. However, most such bikes are shaky and not very stable (due to the fact that the frame is not welded in a single position), the ride is poor and they are not particularly pleasant to ride.
However, a Hungarian designer, Simon Hukaya, thinks he has the answer with his SPACE folding bicycle, which features a clever mechanism which allows for both easy folding/unfolding, as well as maintaining the correct structural rigidity. Furthermore, its 20-inch wheels are placed as far away from each other as possible, maximizing the bike’s stability.
Currently, no plans to market it have been announced, but it’s a good idea which could catch on, if priced correctly, that is.
