If you can get past the wobbly and almost nausea-inducing camera movements in the following video you will observe what can be pretty much called a piece of automotive art.
We are talking about Brabus' magnum opus at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, which was most definitely represented by the 850 engine.
Developed by using the AMG M157 engine as basis, the 5.5-liters of displacement was upgraded by the Bottrop engineers to 5.9 liters, while the compressors in the two turbochargers were replaced with larger ones.
Along with a gold-plated intake system, a stainless steel exhaust system and a bespoke Brabus ECU, the M157 engine has been pushed to develop no less than 850 hp and a staggering 1450 Nm (1069 lb ft) of torque.
Naturally, since that amount of torque would have probably obliterated the already-beefed up transmission, Brabus has decided to limit it to “just” 1150 Nm (848 lb ft). That is still about the same as a small locomotive, which is why it can make an all-wheel drive Mercedes-Benz E-Class reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standing start in just 3.1 seconds.
