See Hankook’s Future Tires and Other Funky Rims at Essen 2013

If you recall, Hankook released a while ago a video showing off its idea of some futuristic high-tech tires, promising to change the way vehicles drive on different road surfaces. Well, the concepts are real and they were showcased at this year’s Essen Motor Show as you will see in the photos bellow.

Hankook constructed four conceptual wheels that explore the possibility of further increase grip, performance, comfort and fuel economy for future vehicles, which can also be seen in the video bellow.

The orange accented wheel promises to increase cornering capabilities, being constructed by three separated toroids and have the ability to “lean” in corners. Continuing with the one that has a floating center hub, this one is based on electromagnetism and it aids with dampening as seen in the video.

Next is the bulky orange accented wheel, that will be excellent in offroad conditions. Instead of a single-piece tire, this one uses multiple variable rubber blocks that can move independently and mold on the rough terrain.

Last but not least is the “hybrid tire” which can change its tire profile according to the driving style. The profile can be fully flat to offer maximum grip or it can shrink the middle section not to touch the road, thus minimizing rolling resistance and offering an increased fuel economy.

Now if someone could combine the four into one single smart wheel... However, check them in the video and the photo gallery where you will also be able to see some other trendy rims labeled as “fashion wheels.”
