With the continuous offensive of 4Matic all-wheel drive on AMG models started by Mercedes-Benz last year, you would expect that pretty much every three-pointed star model that wears an AMG badge in the future will also come with all-wheel drive.
Obviously, you would be mistaken, as there still are a couple of old-school Mercedes-Benz AMG models in the pipeline which will exclusively feature rear-wheel drive for a number of reasons, with the most important one being the fact that 4Matic is simply not compatible with their raison d'être and would simply alienate their customer base.
Among those models we find the Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster and its subsequent AMG variants, which will forever send their ever-increasing power to the rear wheels.
We actually got the chance to drive the current SL 63 AMG (R231) a while ago and came back pretty ecstatic about a rather large number of features from that car, but we're guessing that the car in the following short video would have probably left our jaws firmly pressed against the floor.
Apart from the staggering quarter mile time achieved by this uber-roadster tuned by PP-Performance, we only know that its M157 engine now outputs somewhere around 820 hp and 1,100+ Nm (811+ lb ft) of torque, which is pretty much insane if you ask us.
Even more insane is the fact that the 10.6 seconds time on street tires probably makes it the fastest SL 63 AMG in the world when it comes to the quarter mile. Also, keep in mind that the run was taken on the Yas MArina track in Abu Dhabi, where the is not exactly cold so the engine isn't running at its best capacity. Enjoy!
