Whenever Christmas is around the corner, everybody is suddenly in the mood for fun and games, and we can’t say we’re complaining. The latest to give us a little dose of holiday chuckles is Mercedes-Benz with its Santa Class configurator.
We’re old enough by now to realize that if Santa Claus is to actually deliver all his gifts in just one night, he can’t really be using that old sleigh he keeps getting seen in. He’s surely driving something a lot more modern, more potent and better looking.
We’re not saying Audi, BMW or any other premium manufacturer don’t stand a chance, but our bet has always been on a Mercedes-Benz, and now we finally have the confirmation: Mercedes-Benz decided to break the silence and do away with the secrecy and revealed the official website where Santa Claus gets his Santa Class sleigh each year, so that we can all experience it.
So, presuming Mercedes gave us full access and isn’t holding anything back, Santa gets to choose between three different platforms to build upon, depending on where he needs to get: if the roads are good, he’ll go for the Silver Arrow; if the roads are bad, he has the G-Class option; and if he needs to navigate through a large city, there’s the F015 available.
He then gets to choose a color for his new German sleigh: Reindeer Nose red, Pine Needle green, Silent Night black, Angel’s Hair silver metallic or Jingle Bells gold. Since not getting spotted is the whole point, we’re guessing black or silver are his most obvious choices.
The sleigh’s runners come in three flavors, from the elegant “Exclusive” option to the futuristic “Avant-garde” and the sporty “AMG.” Three is also the number of available power options, ranging from the mandatory 4MATIC to hybrid and culminating with the demonic-looking AMG mutant reindeer.
Finally, there are three optional equipment packages available: the Safety Package Plus in the form of a hovering guardian angel; the Navigation system taking the shape of a guiding star, or the Intelligent Light System that can easily be mistaken for a garden gnome.
