This purpose-built off-road machine, based on the 2008 road car, will try to take the team made up of Sebastien Loeb, Stephane Peterhansel, Cyril Depres and Carlos Sainz on a 2-week journey through Argentina and Bolivia in next year’s Dakar Rally.
The Peugeot 2008DKR has been improved and it is now much wider, faster, lower, and more powerful. For the first time, apart from the usual colors, its roof is colored in gray, designed to reflect the sunshine from the Argentinian summer, where 50 degrees Celsius is not something out of the ordinary.

Because of some features like the spare tires, which are now stored in the car’s sidepods, the dimensions of the new 2008DKR are now changed and the center of gravity has been lowered, all of these giving the car better handling.

The power is pushed only to the rear-wheels, unlike MINI’s four-wheel-drive system, for example, a layout that allows the car to have some extra ground clearance to make up for the reduced traction.

With this performance at their disposal, the drivers should outrun any obstacle that comes in their way to the finish line.

According to Bruno Famin, Peugeot Sport Director, if the car works as well as it looks, they won’t have any problem in fighting for the Dakar title. This team, formed by four very experienced drivers, needs to stop MINIi’s All4 Racing, which has proved dominant for the past four years.

It is known that Peugeot had a problem with the reliability of some parts, but if it has managed to fix that, the dream-team will conquer a new title for the French carmaker.

The 38th Dakar Rally starts on January 2, 2016, in Buenos Aires and ends on January 16 in Rosario. It sums up nearly 10,000 kilometers, practically the entire width of South America, through which the drivers will meet some rough ground and very intense competition.
