Formula 1 is a dog-eat-dog world. Despite the back-breaking stuff that makes Formula 1 entertaining in the eyes of the fans, driver Sebastian Vettel prevailed. After all, the 29-year-old German snatched the Driver’s Championship four times on the trot.
Driving for Scuderia Ferrari hasn’t been a rewarding experience for him since he made the switch from Red Bull Racing, though it definitely has its perks. One of those perks is having to do PR stunts for the Cavallino Rampante.
Another fringe benefit comes in the form of doing TV ads for the long-time Scuderia Ferrari sponsor Royal Dutch Shell. And from the looks of it, Seb has enjoyed himself during the filming of Shell’s latest ad: The Job Swap.
In this 1-minute and 40-second long publicity spot, the Formula 1 ace swaps a high-performance Ferrari 488 GTB for a British ambulance without a single badge on it. Fret not, though, because I am much obliged to tell you that this ambulance is, in fact, a 2004 Renault Master LH35D with a 2.5-liter diesel.
In the adjacent clip, Sebastian Vettel races the Renault ambulance against a Ferrari driven by Alex Knapton, an ambulance driver with 1,356 calls under his professional belt. In terms of advantages and drawbacks, it’s clear that the difference between the two cars and drivers is as large as it can possibly be.
Seb’s got the talent and an F1 super license, yet he doesn’t have the right car. Alex, on the other hand, has the go-faster machine, yet the only cars he’s used to driving fast are ambulances. Having said that, who do you think is the fastest between the two men? Think twice before you place that bet.
P.S.: Incidentally, Sebastian Vettel won all of its four titles with the help of Formula 1 engines developed by Renault. The ambulance is equipped with a Renault engine as well. Coincidence? Maybe. Or maybe not. Who knows?
