Seattle Police Department Is Using Nissan Leaf EVs for Traffic Enforcement

While other places on Earth see the police using an exquisite selection of the moment's hottest supercars, hypercars, performance SUVs and other spaceships, Seattle Police is taking the green approach.

Alright, there's a big difference between having a police Aventador behind your car, pulling you over and a Nissan Leaf EV, no doubt about that. But you have to admit that having an entire fleet of electric police cars is one of the coolest things we (and eco-conscious citizens) can think of.

However, these police Leaf EVs won't be chasing bad guys on the highway, nor will they be the subject of a new era in Hollywood movies under the "EV and PHEV vehicle stunts".

Simply put, Seattle Police will use the 28 Nissan Leaf models for their Parking Enforcement Department. At least that's what Nissan Electric is telling us in a Twitter post with an attached photo. They also congratulated the Emerald City for staying green, but we hope the officers operating the EVs won't start giving tickets to internal combustion engined cars that wander around charging stations.

After a better look, the cars showed in the picture look like 2011 or 2012 models. That's not the important thing, however. What matters most is that the green initiative is spreading fast, and authorities are starting to promote it as such. Also, they got rid of those geek-looking Segways; extra points for that!

In any case, seeing a bunch of police-badged Nissan Leaf EVs shouldn't be a total surprise. Leaf sales in the United States have already reached the 75,000 milestone and Nissan are already looking at the possibility of making charging at work a reality for Leaf owners.
