The Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world's largest exhibition for the mobile industry, is not exactly the place where one would expect to see a concept car. Yet given the high degree of digitalization in cars and their aspiration of becoming autonomous in the coming years, it was only a matter of time until that happened.
This year, the MWC opens its doors on February 25 in Barcelona, the usual venue for the event. Just as it did over the past five years, the Spanish car brand SEAT will be there, showing its ideas on how to blend mobile communication with cars.

For this year's event, the carmaker created and plans to show a concept car “developed as a mobility platform.”

“Mobility is changing, and our role as a manufacturer and provider of mobility is changing with it. We must be able to manage and offer new mobility platforms that will be the key players in cities of the future,” said in a statement the company's president Luca de Meo.

“SEAT is heavily involved in several projects of this type and the MWC is the perfect backdrop to make them known to the world.”

No other details about the vehicle were provided, and it is unclear whether it is the same as another premiere announced by SEAT for the event, the 5G Connected Car.

The 5G Connected Car has been developed together with Spanish telecommunications company Telefónica as a pilot test for a system that can talk to the infrastructure and other vehicles, with the ultimate goal of developing an autonomous car.

SEAT hinted the concept to be shown ay MWC may somewhat be tied with the eXS, a scooter co-developed with Segway and on sale on several markets since last year.

The full details on SEAT's presence at the Mobile World Congress can be found in the document attached below.
