Spanish automaker SEAT is developing a four-wheel drive RHD version of the Leon ST estate to be sold in the United Kingdom, a company representative has revealed.
Speaking to Autocar, SEAT’s R&D chief Matthias Rabe said the new four-wheel drive ST will share Volkswagen’s Golf 4MOTION system and will go on sale in the United Kingdom “before the end of the year”.
In addition, Rabe told our source that the Leon Cupra will arrive in both three and five-door version, while an estate variant to rival Ford’s Focus ST wagon is currently under assessment. The Leon Cupra will be the most powerful car between it, and its MQB brothers, the Golf GTI and Skoda Octavia RS. A 2-liter TSI engine is being especially preped for itand will deliver around 260 horsepower.
The SEAT Leon Sports Tourer wagon, which is underpinned by the same MQB modular platform as the new Leon hatchback, the seventh-generation Golf and the Audi A3, will be introduced at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
