On April 30, 2016, an all-new season of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship will begin. STCC Volvo Race Skovde will take place on a 2.1-kilometer (1.3-mile) track at Skovde Airport, which combines fast corners and a grueling hairpin. Five teams will duke it out - Team Kia, Dacia Dealer Team, Team Tido, Cyan Racing, and PWR Racing Team.
The outfit we will cheer for is PWR Racing Team because the car it will be racing is more badass than words can describe. Introducing the SEAT Leon STCC, a coupe-ified take on the Leon Cup Racer. Fellow car people, you can boo and hiss now because this car won’t be adapted for mass production.

When you think about it, the Leon could use a third body style in the form of a two-door coupe. The hatchback looks great in three- and five-door flavors, as does the family-oriented ST and X-Perience. It's a shame, though, that SEAT will never bring such a body style to market, especially after the launch of the Ateca crossover. But that was then and this is now, so what does the SEAT Leon STCC have to boast about? A lot, to be honest.

Developed in Spain by a small team of designers and engineers who put over 2,500 hours into making this racecar happen, the Leon STCC is animated by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 420 horsepower. Drive is sent to a limited-slip differential that distributes the power between the rear wheels (yes, RWD!) via a 6-speed sequential transmission from Sadev.

That’s jolly and all, but no other contemporary touring car comes close to the menacing appearance of this thing. Those flared wheel arches, the ominous paint job, the signature lighting up front and at the rear, the huge wing, the equally huge aerodynamic diffuser, these things all come together just so, just perfect.

I’ve never tuned in to watch an STCC race, but the SEAT Leon STCC has convinced me to at least try it.
