The SEAT Leon SC was probably the sexiest 3-door hatchback. But just like the Astra GTC and VW Scirocco, it was neither a good family car nor a true coupe.
We always thought that the SC body was a good thing since it meant you could get behind the wheel of a second-hand Leon 1.8 TSI while spending a bit less money. But that also meant the people who bought it in the first place would take a financial hit, which few people did. The 3-door body has a nicer profile and probably makes a better Cupra, though.

The news about the Leon SC being dropped came from Britain. However, it has subsequently been removed from the German market as well, and only a few European markets have failed to update this info.

The SC was available from €17,900, making it €1,880 cheaper than the 5-door version. However, that's not the only difference. Unlike in the VW Golf range, the Leon 3-door is shorter and lighter. At just 1,150kg, the 150 horsepower 1.4 turbo could hit 100 km/h in under 8 seconds.

But it's not surprising at all that the base Leon is being discontinued. While you still get the same sized trunk, accessing the rear seats is difficult, which means it's not great when the first baby comes along.

The same thing also happened to the Ibiza supermini, even before they switched to the current generation. Speaking of which, the Leon 4 will debut in late 2019, and we've known all along that it wouldn't get the 3-door body, just like the next A3 and Golf. It didn't even work for the Range Rover Evoque.

We believe that SEAT is moving away from its boy racer image to become a tech-oriented company. While that's bad news for some, it's still a brand that's interested in what young people want.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
