SEAT Ibiza SC 3-Door Discontinued, Cupra Model Also Missing from Configurator

We've already talked about the Ibiza ST being discontinued, and about the Alhambra awaiting its executioner in 2018. Heck, that one is only hanging around because it's Spain's most popular taxi.

But it hasn't been reported yet that the Ibiza SC also kicked the bucket, has it?! In the old days, the 3-door version was the one to get. People kept comparing it to Lamborghinis and showering it with compliments.

But not surprisingly, very few people actually bought an Ibiza with two fewer doors... or an Ibiza in general.

We've reached out to SEAT's Spanish dealer network and learned the SC was sent off with something called "Ultimate Edition." Of course, we weren't provided with photos, but it's an FR model limited to one engine: 1.0 TSI 110 HP with Drive Select. Standard equipment includes Bi-xenon headlights, Alcantara upholstery, a 6.5-inch Full Link system and 17-inch Dynamic Titanium wheels.

Of course, SEAT only made a 3-door Cupra model, so that's gone too. This has to be one of the worst planned decisions ever, since it had just received a 1.8-liter turbo engine and manual gearbox. All that testing and development for nothing!

I'm not saying that the Ibiza SC is the best car in the world and that it didn't deserve to be discontinued. But what does the SEAT brand stand for? Unlike most brands that were established by ambitious individuals, the Spanish government made this company to give its people affordable transportation. Volkswagen took over and made it the sportiest of all the brands, but that doesn't apply to it anymore. Most Leons don't have independent suspension and crossovers seem to be SEAT's main preoccupation these days. For example, the Alhambra's place will be taken over by a 7-seater, like the Skoda Kodiaq.
