SEAT Ibiza Cupster Revealed Ahead of Worthersee GTI Treffen

GTI fans gathering at the Worthersee this year are probably obsesses only with two things: the Golf GTI and the Golf R. But a new concept from Spanish sister brand SEAT stands up and screams "look at me" with a body chop that's nothing short of radical.

This is the Ibiza Cupster, a clever play on the words Cupra and roadster. The Spanish supermini is by no means a firm favorite with the GTI community, so rather than change just a little, they've gone all-out and taken the roof off the car to make it more radical.

Not only has the car gone from a 3-door hatch to an open air sportscar, but it's lost the rear seats as well. In their place, a pair of humps give the Ibiza Cupster a sporty look worthy of any Jaguar race car from the past. Both passengers now sit a massive 80mm (3 inches) lower to the ground for that true sportscar feel.

The similarities to a Lamborghini Murcielago Spyder and not coincidental. Remember, the Ibiza was styled by the Italian firm's designers and now the angle of the Day Light Opening replicates the two character lines down the side of the car.

SEAT is being greedy with the details, keeping them all to itself until the GTI Fan Meet Worthersee next week. Only once the Austrian venue gets underway will be learn if something has happened to the 1.4-liter twin-charger engine.

The model was supposedly built to celebrate 30 years of Ibiza production. But really SEAT, you don't need a reason to build a cool concept for the fans.
