Extreme freedom of movement. Utterly cool design. An intriguing presence and a head-turner. Commuting and fun rides around the block and the city. All in style and with impulse drive. All these sum up to one name: Scrooser.
The brainchild of several Germans, Scrooser is probably one of the coolest electric mobility concepts we saw in the last 6 months. With a "free-form 3D bending" aluminium frame which looks extremely cool despite its minimalist design, Scrooser may be described as a push scooter on steroids.
Fat tires keep the Scrooser upright when stopped, but a kick stand is also present, with keyed ignition and locking cable as further security-focused features. Direct drive 1kW rear hub motor with motor braking and disc brake for the front move and stop the Scrooser.
However, the Scrooser comes with impulse drive, and this expands the range. Impulse drive means the Eco mode will automatically engage and disengage the motor to help you go faster and easier... as you use foot-power to go further, just like when riding a traditional scooter.
Scrooser can carry up to 125 kg (275 lbs) of man and luggage and weighs in at 28 kg (61 lbs). It goes as fast as 25 km/h (15 mph) and the 35 km (22 miles) range can expand to 55 km (34 miles) on impulse drive. Charging takes 1.5 – 3 hours, depending on the source. LED daytime running lights and rear position red LEDs are also on the menu.
We're waiting for the pricing and the Scrooser team says they'll also prepare a GPS locator beacon for even more security. Cool, cool, cool!
Update: it looks like Scrooser was up for funding on Kickstarter and it fared well beyond the goal. Early bird price was $3,950 (€3,030).
