As you’re well aware, Scotty Kilmer likes Ford more than General Motors and Chrysler. Everyone’s favorite YouTube car mechanic – known for saying “money pit” way too often – also happens to recommend a Chevy.
It’s not just any ol’ Chevrolet, though, but the all-new Corvette with the midship layout and LT2 small-block V8. The veteran mechanic with more than 3.3 million subscribers on YouTube starts off by complementing the engine bay, highlighting that it’s relatively easy to work on the 6.2-liter powerplant.

Taking the trunk cover off also translates to plenty of working space for the dual-clutch transaxle supplied by Tremec. As such, Scotty couldn’t miss the opportunity to compare C8 servicing to the nightmare known as the 911. Porsche mechanics often drop the six-cylinder boxer in order to perform maintenance, an operation that costs a lot of money at the dealership in labor hours alone.

The GPS nose-lifting system, decent ride in touring mode, and comfy seats have also left a good impression on Scotty, describing this $72,500 example of the breed as seriously good value when compared to European alternatives. “Handles like a dream” is another quote worth pointing out, more so if you compare the ‘Vette nose-heavy muscly boys like the Mustang Shelby GT500.

However, do skip the video to the 4-minute and 42-second mark. Notice the double stitching on the passenger side of the dashboard? It’s hard to imagine how that much waviness got past quality control, but still, the first model year of any vehicle is chock-full of problems that will eventually be sorted out.

As a brief refresher, General Motors has restarted 2020 Corvette production in Bowling Green this week while the 2021 model is scheduled to roll off the line at the beginning of November. The second year of the C8 will also see an increase in the retail price, but nobody knows for certain by how much.

The eighth-generation sports car in its most basic of specifications kicks off at $59,995 including destination charge while the Z51 Performance Package that unlocks a little more get-up-and-go costs $5,000 on top of that.
