Scott Dixon Becomes Mr. IRL, Wins 20th Race at Mid-Ohio

Scott Dixon faced little opposition at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Sunday, as the Ganassi driver dominated the second half of the race to win by more than half a minute to Australia's Ryan Briscoe. In clinching his 20th win in the Indy Car Series, Dixon has also clinched back the championship lead ahead of Penske rival Briscoe.

Obviously it's a fantastic milestone for myself and obviously for the team. I've achieved all of those wins with Target. Without them, it wouldn't have been possible. To finally be labeled (Mr. IRL) I think in this series is a big deal to me, a big deal to the team. But it's going to be tough to hang on to that. To keep that going, I'm definitely going to have to keep racing for a lot more years. If I got to 25, 30 or 35, that would be pretty cool,” said Dixon after the race, according to the Indy Car site.

Dixon ran the first stint in 3rd place, behind pole sitter Ryan Briscoe and race leader Justin Wilson. However, the Target driver proceeded to staying the longest on the track during his first stint and gained one position after the first pit stop, returning to the field behind Wilson. The New Zealander didn't wait long until finally clinching the lead, as he made a move on the Dale Coyne's Racing driver a few laps later.

When both drivers tried to lap Dreyer & Reinbold's Milka Duno, Dixon snatched the lead and never looked back. Wilson was to finish the race on a distant 13th place, due to his car running light at the second pit stop.

From that point on, Dixon was to easily hold on to his lead, while followed by a struggling Briscoe in 2nd place. The Penske Aussie had to resist a late surge from Ganassi's Dario Franchitti but was able to maintain the runner-up spot to the chequered flag. The Top 5 was completed by an enthusiastic Ryan Hunter-Reay and Hideki Mutoh, while followed by Marco Andretti and Paul Tracy.
