Scot Racing Team Quits MotoGP

Just when it seemed Alex de Angelis will prolong his stay in the MotoGP series, his new team failed on him, announcing their immediate withdrawal from the championship prior to the 2010 campaign. After the two days of testing at Valencia, Scot Racing MotoGP officially confirmed they were unable to “deliver the bike due to an expired time limit relevant to the request.”

The Italian outfit will therefore compete in the FIM's inaugural Moto2 series, a championship initially projected as a feeder series to the MotoGP. In addition, the newly formed championship would help the less-potent (financially speaking) teams, to get used to operating a professional organization before making the next step into the MotoGP.

After the happiness for the conquest of the world championship in the 250cc class for me and for the whole team this is a great disappointment, that no reward for all the work done over the years. Now we just have to concentrate on the project Moto2," said team manager Cirano Mularoni.

Scot Racing Team has this year won the 250cc title with Japanese rider Hiroshi Aoyama, while running Yuki Takahashi and Gabor Talmacsi in the MotoGP class. Following Takahashi's lack of funds midway through the season, the team decided to give the ride to Talmacsi, who failed to make a single Top 10 appearance all season.

If the situation remains the same prior to the start of the MotoGP season next year, the series will again be tackled with a 17-bike field. Alex de Angelis will therefore have to look for another racing spot next year, likely outside the MotoGP, as all lineups have already been confirmed for 2010.
