Scooter Rider Won’t Let Go of His Phone Even as He's Crashing

Some conversations are too good to just end them, and no amount of traffic or consideration for his personal safety could get this scooter rider to put down his cellphone.

The incident captured on the dashcam of a motorist and available at the bottom of the page occurred on July 24 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, according to Viral Hog. In a small but busy intersection, the motorist made a left and had the scooter rider coming in from his right.

There was no crash, in the sense that there was no contact between the car and the scooter, but the rider did end up mildly hurt. As you can see in the footage, the driver slowed down as the rider was coming in. However, the rider was on his phone and, realizing that he was heading directly for the car, tried to correct the course of the scooter.

He ended up losing control of it and, still clutching his phone to his ear, was eventually thrown off into the street. Viral Hog says that “no one was injured,” but that kind of fall must have left at least a couple of scratches or bruises.

If not, here’s to hoping it at least taught this brave man that riding through a busy city while chatting on the phone is not worth the risk. Next time, he might not be as lucky as he was on this particular occasion.

In all seriousness, using a cellphone while driving or riding (bike, scooter, bicycle, whatever) is illegal and dangerous. This is just a funny instance for what can go wrong when your attention, eyes and hands are not were they’re supposed to be. Whoever is on the other end of the line will understand if you don’t gamble with your life and others’ and end the conversation.
