After seeing the red Toyota FT-86 Open concept in the new photos, looking ready to hit the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show on November 22nd, we thought it was just the white one that got resprayed or wrapped.
But then, we reminded that the FT-86 Open will also be showcased at the Dubai Motor Show, which just started today.
Did a little scavenging and there you go, the FT-86 Open in Dubai is the old white one we knew from before. Moreover, the white one is left-hand-drive while the red one has its steering wheel on the right side. So, yeah, definitely a separate concept.
Which leaves us thinking there must be two units made, the red one coming second and possibly wearing upgraded underpinnings from the white one, translating into the fact that the company is in fact willing to make one some day.
Otherwise, there seems no logic in spending money to make the same car again just to showcase it in Japan, since the two motor shows are not overlapping.
