Scomadi To Put Out 400cc Classic-Style Scooter

Classic scooters are fantastic... until they break down or you're forced to stop riding them because of emissions. On the other hand, new-age scooters offer the reliability and performance, but most of them look like cheap kitchen appliances. Still, there's hope as Scomadi is bringing a 400cc classic-looking scoot in about a year.

In association with Robert Olsthoorn, Scomadi recently made the acquisition of all the necessary tooling and molds for the Moto Morini 400cc short crankcase automatic scooter engine along with all the IP and design rights.

This will enable the company to take further steps towards becoming self-sufficient in engine supply for all their own machines. The current engine design will be assessed and developed even further in order to switch it from carburetor to fuel injection. Not only this will add more power, but it will aid with making it compliant with Euro 4 regulations.

According to Scomadi, “The new 400 model should be available in 2018. This project is currently in progress with a hand built prototype as a test bed. The process of CAD modeling alongside rigorous testing is underway to move the prototype forward to mass production and to ensure it complies with the forthcoming Euro 4 regulations.”

The prototype has been presented at this year's EICMA show, and you can see it in the pictures here as well. Just imagine how fast this will be, considering the big four-stroke engine and the minimalistic body and frame. I rode a Vespa PX125 and believe me that thing is fast for a scooter... and it's a two-stroker.

Last year, Scomadi displayed a 250cc geared model at the same motorcycle show. If you're wondering why you can't buy one at the moment, well, the scoot isn't ready for market yet, as the company is currently evaluating alternative engines. One of the favored choices is said to be the one on the current Aprilia 200 scooter.
