Scion tC Gets Five-Star NHTSA Rating

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded a five-star safety rating for the 2011 Scion tC. With the help of its 8 airbags, the car was capable of passing the government’s collision and rollover tests.

The model is equipped with driver and passenger front airbags, as well as seat-mounted side airbags, driver and passenger knee airbags and side-curtain airbags. To increase the safety level of the car, the tC is also equipped with electronic systems that help the driver deal with any situation.

Every new Scion car comes, as standard, with the Star Safety System which represent a combination of six different features that help the driver gain control of the vehicle at all time. The Star Safety System includes vehicle stability control (VSC), traction control (TC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist (BA) and smart stop technology (SST).

The Smart Stop Technology system reduces engine power when the brake is firmly applied, which brings the car to a full stop even if the gas pedal is fully depressed. The tC is smart built in order to distribute crash impact forces with the help of reinforced cross and side members that are laid out horizontally in the passenger compartment. Thanks to this solution, crash impact forces are distributed to the vehicle's upper body and throughout the entire body structure. In addition to this, the exterior panels of the car form the rigid body shell which acts as an impact absorbing structure.

The front and rear seats are equipped with side curtain airbags that protect the passenger’s upper torso and head from impact. This feature comes as standard, but there is a huge list of optional that help improve the Scion tC safety level. On this particular list we find features like Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), driver and front passenger active headrests, driver and front passenger advance airbag system.
