Scion Pickup Truck Coming in 2014

It seems that Toyota plans to return to its small-truck beginings with an all new compact pickup which is to be sold by Scion. The original project was started by Toyota four years ago when it first reveled the A-BAT Conceptor Advanced Breaktrough Aero Truck, a unibody compact pickup that was powered by a Prius-like hybrid powertrain. At that specific time the truck was nothing more than a concept, since then the vehicle has been proposed for production several times.

It seems that there could a slight chance for the truck to enter the car market after all in 2014. In January, Jack Hollis Scion Vice President gave some leads regarding a crossover pickup manufactured by Toyota.

“Scion is about innovation and doing things differently. That’s why if we were ever to do something crazy, it would likely be more like a ‘Surprise Utility Vehicle’ rather than a basic pickup truck."
Jack Hollis Scion Vice President was quoted as saying by PickupTrucks.com.

Before you start making savings, you should keep in mind that there is nothing confirmed yet, despite the fact that things are heading towards production more than ever before. It is believed that the truck will be fitted with a traditional engine followed by a hybrid variant. Having the new Scion pickup truck on roads might be a treat but we have to consider the market trends which reveal that sales continue to plummet for the Honda Ridgeline which has a similar body shape. And also to take into consideration where will the model position itself in the coming years considering the fuel costs.
