Schumacher to Attend Italian GP in Ferrari Garage

Now that Giancarlo Fisichella is signed and sealed by Ferrari for the remainder of the 2009 season, the rumors about Michael Schumacher's potential comeback to the sport are officially over. The German will stay close to the Scuderia, however, as he confirmed his presence at the Italian Grand Prix, at Monza, two weekends from now.

Schu's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm confirmed he will attend the Monza weekend on September 11th thru 13th, rather than take part in a German Superbike event at the same date. The German champion has been present in the Ferrari garage at Luca Badoer's debut for the Scuderia in Valencia, but missed the Spa-Francorchamps event due to a karting commitment in Germany.

Michael will not go to Hockenheim (in German Superbikes). He is scheduled to go to Monza,” said Kehm, according to Cologne publication Express.

Schumacher's presence at Monza may suggest the fact that Ferrari are on the verge of making a big announcement two weekends from now. Throughout the last few years, all major decisions regarding Ferrari's Formula One operations have been made public during their home grand prix at Monza.

This year, there are no less than 3 announcements that are expected to go out the Ferrari headquarters regarding their F1 future: confirming a new major sponsor in Spanish banking giant Grupo Santander, (maybe) announcing Fernando Alonso as their race driver from 2010 onwards and closing or extending Schumacher's advisory contract with the team.
