Schumacher Points Finger at Mercedes Car for 2010 Struggle

Michael Schumacher looked back at his returning season in Formula One so far and, needless to say, he did not like what he saw. The 7-time world champion certainly did not expect 12 races to pass without him being at least once on the podium, not to mention the fact that he's now resting 9th in the overall classification, 56 points behind his much younger teammate Nico Rosberg.

However, there is reason for optimism as far as the 41-year old is concerned, as he has the logical explanation for this state of events. And it's not his lack of speed, but the technical package he has been served with in 2010.

Looking at the points table then of course we cannot be satisfied. But there are reasons why the deficit is so great,” said Schu in a recent interview, talking to his sponsor DVAG.

Ever since the season started, Schumacher complained about the understeering behavior of his car, which is why Mercedes have moved quickly to debut a new chassis in the Spanish Grand Prix. However, the fact remained that the Mercedes W01 is not getting along well with the tires, as it was built with an understeering tendency.

A couple of weeks ago, Jenson Button told the media that the car was indeed built for him by Ross Brawn, back when the Brackley based team was running independently from Mercedes. Having switched to McLaren, the car remained Schumacher's to deal with, and this is the main reason why he has been struggling with it from the get go.

This is the car that was put into our hands. It is a remnant of what was created last year. As a result there are many compromises that the driver has to deal with. The car is not at all in harmony with the tires, or also with us as the drivers,” added the 91 grand prix winner, who once again confirmed his team's full focus on the 2011 car.

We have to ensure that the (new) car blends correctly with the drivers, and we are on the right track to be competitive in 2011. We are working harder than ever so that we can go for the titles,” added the German driver.
