Schumacher Happy for Brawn's Success

Michael Schumacher congratulated both championship winner Jenson Button and winning team Brawn GP for their sensational 2009 season, as the British outfit brought home both titles this year and are still racing for an amazing 1-2 finish on top of the table. Although he admitted he would have wanted the drivers' title to be resolved during the season finale, Schu admitted it's hard to see it that way as a driver fighting for it.

Schumacher was even linked with a job for Brawn GP earlier this year, when it was yet unknown whether he'll continue his partnership with Scuderia Ferrari or look elsewhere for a job. His close relationship with Ross Brawn – with whom he won 7 championship crowns at Benetton and Ferrari – made him a candidate for a Brawn GP job, which he eventually didn't pick up.

Talking about this season's title fight, Schu admitted that Brawn GP's story is an amazing one, as the team looked little short of bankrupt prior to the beginning of the season.

Congratulations to Jenson and Ross and the whole team - what they managed to achieve this year has my full respect. I grant them the titles because if you only look at what they have been through you realise what an incredible story this is: just one year ago they did think everything is over. I am extremely happy for Ross who I know since such a long time now, he deserves this success,” said Schu on his personal website.

Known as a Sebastian Vettel fan – whom he sees as the next Formula One champion – Schumacher did not forget to lift his spirits, advising the young German driver to build on his extraordinary 2009 season and turn the next one into a title-clincher.

Of course he will see that differently at the moment and will need some days to digest this weekend. But I am sure we will see and hear a lot of good stuff from him in the future,” added the 40-year old ace.
