Schumacher Could Race in F1 from 2013 Onwards

Michael Schumacher has agreed to a 3-year deal with Mercedes GP, when finally deciding to return to Formula One racing. While insisting that he came back to win an 8th title in the series, the 41-year old German did admit that he may have to wait for a year or so to make it to the F1 crown.

Additionally, Schuey revealed that he may race some more in the Great Circus, meaning he may not stop at the end of 2012. By that date, the German ace would be 43, but he argued that this has nothing to do with his ability to race F1 cars. If he'll still have fun with it, its' likely that he'll continue to drive for Mercedes.

The good thing is that Mercedes believes in me and is giving me the chance for three years to have success. But it does not mean it has to end after three years,” Schumacher was quoted as saying to the German newspaper Bild.

I thought about everything very carefully: Am I just spontaneously high or will my enthusiasm last? I have been excited for quite some time and can imagine doing this for a few years,” added the 41-year old German.

After signing the agreement with Mercedes GP, the German marque's motorsport director Norbert Haug insisted that Schumacher has committed to a role within the Mercededs-Benz organization for a much longer period of time. Meaning that the 3-year stint in F1 would be followed by an ambassadorial position for Schuey inside the Stuttgart-based company, in case he decides to quit F1 at the end of 2012.

However, when talking to the media in recent days, team manager Ross Brawn revealed that Schumacher's return in F1 also has a “development meaning”, in a sense that he will “train” teammate Nico Rosberg into becoming a regular championship contender for the future.
