Schumacher Confirms Tire Issues for Mercedes

Michael Schumacher will try to bounce back from his worst race finish in his career (P15 in Valencia) two weekends from now, at Silverstone. However, the German is realistic about his team's chances of returning to fight for podiums at the British track, as Ross Brawn & Co still haven't figured out the tire issues with their W01 challenger.

The matter was brought forward by Nico Rosberg earlier this week, who admitted his frustration over the fact that his team still failed to solve the tire problems – getting them up to speed has been a problem for Brawn GP/Mercedes GP ever since last year's British GP, when Jenson Button was doing zig-zags on the Silverstone track in the late stages of the race in order to warm up his car's tires.

Schumacher echoed his teammate's comments earlier today, in a media preview of next weekend's race at the British track.

Silverstone represents a special race for us as it is so close to everyone at our factories in Brackley and Brixworth who are all working like hell to make up the quite difficult start into the season that we have experienced,” said the 7-time world champion.

We would like to give them and all of our supporters a good performance this coming weekend, even if we seem to struggle a bit at the moment. We have to face the fact that we were less competitive in Valencia than we had hoped for which makes it difficult to predict how we can perform at the British Grand Prix.

Our race pace has been quite promising but our qualifying speed is not yet ideal and we still do not understand the full picture about the tires. This clearly is something that we will keep working on intensively,” added the German.
