Schumacher, Alonso Sign New Sponsor Deals

2010 title contenders Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso have both signed important sponsorship deals ahead of the new Formula One season. As each of those two have switched teams after the 2009 season – Alonso moving to Ferrari and Schuey leaving the Scuderia for a racing spot at Mercedes – new sponsorship deals were needed in order to ensure a brand new start in their career.

According to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, Schumacher is using his spare time this week – as his teammate Nico Rosberg is scheduled to take the W01 to the track in Jerez on Wednesday – to ink two new deals for the 2010 season. We're talking about fashion labels Jet Set and Navyboot, who will become the German's new backers as of this year.

We weren't given any insight on how big the contract will be or for how many years it was signed, but what we do know is that the two brands' logos will also appear on Schumacher's overalls throughout the 2010 season.

As far as Alonso is concerned, the Spaniard did not exactly ink a deal with a new sponsor, but rather extended his current one with Silestone, a Spain-based multinational kitchen supplier owned by Cosentino, as reported by the GMM news agency. As compared to Schuey, his sponsor's logo will not appear on the Ferrari overalls this season.

Both drivers will be in action during this week's test at Jerez, with Alonso scheduled to take the F10 to the track from as early as this morning. He will conclude his Jerez programme with a second run tomorrow, after which Massa will take over for the remaining 2 days of the test. As for Schumacher, the German will cross-test the W01 with his teammate this week, being scheduled to drive the car on Thursday and Saturday.
