Schuberth M1 Helmet, the New Urban Standard?

As Schuberth had indeed promised, a new helmet was announced: welcome the M1, with M standing for “metropolitan”. The M1 is the successor of the J1 lid which was manufactured between 2005 and 2012. Everybody sort of expected Schuberth to unveil the J2 and thus keep true to the helmet model names coined with C-series, but things are going in a different direction.

According to Schuberth, the development of the M1 was centered on improved acoustics, aerodynamics, aesthetics, ventilation and even customization. The lid was already engineered to live up to the very high standards Schuberth imposed in the industry, and maybe this is why safety was left out of this “focus list”.

“Custom Schuberth” sounds interesting

The Schuberth M1 introduces a new concept for German manufacturer, as customers will be able to choose form a wide variety of options when they get it. The M1 can be bought in 7 different base colors, each named after an European city and comes with 5 different visors. However the cool things don’t stop here. M1 has two peak colors, as they are available in metallic or black colors, and users can even swap them with ease. Add in 6 flag stickers and even two options for the linings!

Almost fully-loaded

The Schuberth M1 is supplied with a built-in mic and speakers and is ready to receive a snap-on intercom. The unit is manufactured by Cardo for Schuberth and apparently it will be used for the future Schuberth helmets, as well. An integrated sun visor is also on the house, a thing which becomes more and more standard equipment even for jet helmets.

Schuberth will start shipping the M1 in early 2015, with a price of €399 in Europe. No mention on the North American price was made so far. The M1 will have 2 shell sizes and will be ranging from XS through 3XL. Getting two Cardo intercoms will get you a nice discount for these add-ons, rumor has it.

Now, save for the price, you have no excuse not to wear premium protection in the shape of a top-drawer lid.
