Scania to Boost Production in Poland

Having reopened this week the facility in SBupsk, Poland, bus and truck manufacturer Scania says it has transformed it into Europe’s most modern, efficient factory for bus manufacturing. The plant is the location where Scania will be manufacturing fully built (bodied) buses for public transport.

Employing 700 people, the SBupsk facility will be manufacturing Scania OmniCity and OmniLink models. It also assembles Scania OmniCity chassis, which are later sent to other bus manufacturers to be bodied to their own specifications.

“We have invested in the working environment and reorganised the production flow in a way that enables us to carry out continuous improvements of working methods, productivity and quality, in the same way as at Scania’s other production units in Europe and Latin America,” said Gert Flodkvist, head of Scania Production SBupsk.

Having reopened the facility, Scania now plans to increase its production capacity so that it can expand its offering into markets like Germany − Europe’s largest bus and coach market. For now, the Scania buses and chassis are mainly sold in countries like Poland, Great Britain, France, Italy and the Northern countries.

“Higher production capacity in SBupsk is important in our strategy of increasing sales of buses for public transport. The more efficient manufacturing process created by this renovation is also of great significance in ensuring a continued positive earnings trend in Scania’s bus and coach operations,” added Melker Jernberg, Senior Vice President and head of Scania Buses and Coaches.

The SBupsk plant has been owned by Scania since 2003, when it ended the partnership with local manufacturer Kapena and acquired the majority of the stake in the plant.
