Bus and coach manufacturer Scania started the year in style by announcing a major order received from British transport operator Stagecoach. 114 units, comprising 91 double-deck and 50 single-deck buses equipped with Alexander Dennis bodies, will be used by Stagecoach throughout the UK.
"This order follows Stagecoach's acquisition of Scania buses during 2009/10 and is a further demonstration of our companies' shared commitment to providing passenger carrying vehicles of an extremely high environmental standard. As such, we are delighted to once again be selected as a key supplier to Stagecoach Group," said Tony Tomsett, Scania Bus, Coach and Engines Sales director.
All the models to be delivered are powered by 9l Euro 5 and EEV engines, which have an output of 230 horsepower and 1,050Nm of torque. The engines are paired to ZF HP504 five- and six-speed fully automatic transmissions.
The double-decker buses are based on the N-series and will come wearing Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 bodywork. They can seat 47 people on the upper deck, 29 on the lower deck, having enough extra space for 16 standees.
The regular buses are based on the K-series equipped with Alexander Dennis Enviro 300 bodywork. They come with 43 seats, yet the number of standees is yet to be decided.
"Scania double-deck buses are well proven within our fleet and their reliability, performance and fuel economy has led us to specify them once again," comments Stagecoach Group Managing Director Les Warneford.
"This positive operating experience has also influenced our choice of single-deckers. This order marks our first significant purchase such vehicles from Scania and they will be the first to be equipped with Alexander Dennis Enviro 300 bodywork."
