We’re one week away from Christmas, so Christmas advertising is about to kick into really high gear, including with your favorite automaker. Ford, for one, is throwing it way back, with a recreation of an awesome photoshoot no one knew existed.
It’s Bronco-centric, and it’s awesome. As it turns out, on November 4, 1968, Santa stopped by the Ford headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, to check out how the Gen-1 Bronco was doing while testing in the cold room. After all, since he was planning to use it as his sleigh (reindeer are hardly efficient, and he finally had caught up with that), he needed to see if it could withstand extreme temperatures.
While there and apparently ready to go, based on the fact that he’d packed the Bronco with a wide variety of presents, Santa agreed to have his picture taken with two Ford engineers. The photos were then supposed to be printed in an internal publication but never were. Instead, they were forgotten in the Ford archive for more than five decades and discovered again last year by Heritage and Archives manager Ted Ryan, as Ford was doing research on the 2021 Bronco.
What better way to ring in the spirit of the holidays than with a recreation of this awesome photoshoot the world never knew existed, but this time featuring the 2021 Bronco? The cold room at the HQ is still being used, so it was the perfect location for it.
Santa has now swapped his old 4x4 for a 2021 two-door Outer Banks model in Race Red (because Christmas), fitted with the Sasquatch package, brush bar, and Heavy Duty Modular Front Bumper. He’s still as jolly and friendly, though his beard seems to have grown smaller, and he’s now wearing a mask – much like the two Ford engineers, due to safety precaution. On the bright side, at least one of them has been able to quit smoking.
In addition to releasing the photo set, Ford is using the pics for the “How it started, how it’s going” challenge that’s still very popular on social media. Here’s the Blue Oval keeping the finger on the pulse.
