Santa Claus Mistakes the Back of a Citroen C3 for a Chimney

People have always wondered what Santa Claus was up to during the 364 days of the year when he's not out giving kids and grown-ups alike presents, and now we at least have the answer for one of them.

Previously it was believed he would spend all his time in his workshop in Lapland building toys, bossing the elves around, and maintaining his sled in top-notch condition so it won't let him down on Christmas Eve's night. Well, that doesn't sound like a very exciting existence, but jumping out of a plane with a parachute does.

As a kid at heart, I strongly object toward this kind of activities when Santa Claus is involved, since they pose too great a risk of injury for the jolly fat man with a fixation for red. You wouldn't want him catching an injury, especially not when we're only a month and a half away from Christmas.

But the man is a few hundred years old so that he can decide for himself, and if he wants to go skydiving in Brazil, then he damn well will. It turns out having that sled in such good condition meant he never had a reason to practice jumping out of it with a parachute, so his skills were a bit rusty.

Santa
was supposed to land on a predefined spot during the inauguration of Christmas decorations at a new mall in Juaziero, Brazil. It all went reasonably OK until Santa - who goes by the name Papai Noel over there - was about 100 feet off the ground, trying desperately to stabilize his chute.

The official statement from the mall administration (via iG) said that "a sudden change in wind position" made the North Pole citizen lose his balance and come crashing down, hitting a parked car in the process and ruining Christmas forever for all the kids witnessing.

Somewhat miraculously given his weight and age (but not nearly as spectacular as this crash here), Santa managed to come out of this incindent unharmed. The tailgate of the Citroen C3 proved to be soft enough to dampen his approach, and it is said that the owner of the car will be refunded for his repairs.

So, instead of assuming Santa is minding his own business in his workshop, you'd better keep an eye out because he enjoys skydiving and, apparently, he's not very good at it.
