The 7th-generation Golf is on its way out in Europe, soon to be replaced by a new, more high-tech model. But the current version is probably going to survive about two more years in America, hot GTI and R models included.
And while it might not have the exact same kind of engine or AWD system, the Golf R continues to attract the same kind of people as Subaru's WRX and STI models. Both have reached overpriced levels and have lots of performance, but we're talking more about the tuning scene here.

You see, just a month after we showed you a sandy WRX STI with a body kit, we found its Volkswagen equivalent. It's owned by a US Navy Afganistan veteran by the name of Alex Russell.

The car used to be bright red but is now sporting some military-style sandy paint or wrap that just looks the business. Beige wasn't uncommon in the Beetle era, but this is clearly connected to the camo used by the armed services. Maybe you buffs can tell us if this is a navy color or an army one.

In any case, the list of mods on this Golf is actually much more extensive. It obviously sports some new coilover suspension, as well as the BBS rally-style wheels in black. Behind that, we have upgrade discs with 8-piston RS stopping power.

The stock exhaust has been switched out for a non-resonated Milltek cat-back system with active butterfly valves, so it's quiet when it needs to be. Unless we're mistaken, most of the cosmetics are from Oettinger - front spoiler, skirts, diffuser and an insert for the wing. Also, we see mods to all the lights and a small carbon fiber grille insert here. Apparently, the engine is stock, probably making closer to 300 horsepower thanks to that new exhaust system.
