Inspired by “the most beautiful classic sports car of all time” and Formula One technology, the Atlantic sport tender is the aquatic Bugatti for the super-rich, allowing them to make the transition from their superyachts back on solid ground, where their supercars await.
French designer Etienne Salomé, who famously created the Bugatti La Voiture Noire and who has worked in the past with Mazda, Renault and Kia, is continuing his work in boating, with a new concept that should be ready by the 2020 Monaco Yacht Show. Unlike the Bugatti Niniette 66 yacht, the Atlantic is a tender, a smaller high-speed boat that allows passenger and goods transfer from the ground to the yacht.
It was inspired by the Bugatti 1936 Type 57 SC, which Salomé calls “the most beautiful classic sports car of all time” and Formula One technology, the “flow-through hull” that allows air to pass through seamlessly, increasing stability at high speeds and considerably reducing drag, New Atlas reports. The Atlantic can seat up to 9 passengers, measuring 12 meters (36 feet).
Twin Volvo Penta engines will deliver a maximum 880 horsepower and a top speed of 55 to 60 knots (111 kph / 69 mph). The Atlantic comes with a full onboard diagnostic system, a Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit System, a 14-speaker sound system and 2 customized SeaBobs. A self-docking system can also be included on demand, but expect to pay extra for it.
Only 12 units of the Atlantic sport tender will be made for the 2020 Monaco Yacht Show debut. The same media outlet notes that each unit will come at a base price of €1.6 million (about $1.7 million, give or take some loose change), and client deliveries are scheduled to start next year.
In the press photos for the Atlantic, released by Salomé Yachts, the tender is rendered in gorgeous yellow. No word if other color options will be available.
