Bankrupt since 2011, Swedish automaker Saab, now owned by National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), will reportedly restart production at its Trollhattan factory and relaunch the 9-3 model next year.
According to Swedish news website Aftonbladet, quoting sources familiar with the matter, Saab will have more than 400 employees working on an updated 9-3 model in late September. The vehicle will be powered by a turbocharged engine and introduced next year as a four-door sedan and convertible.
Little else is known about the Saab revival, but we'll be right back as soon as more details become available.
As a reminder, the second-generation Saab 9-3 was introduced in 2002 and built in three body styles until 2012 - four-door sedan, four-door station wagon and two-door convertible. A third-generation 9-3 was announced in early 2011 for the 2013 model year, but bankruptcy and the brand's sale put the new iteration on hold.
