Built on the platform of the sedan version and taking inspiration from its Aero X-inspired looks, the SportCombi comes to the world as a wagon like no other. A raked forward tailgate gives it the menacing look of anything but such a body style, with a full-width “ice-block” rear light bar wrapping into light units at either side.
Under the hood of the new version of the 9-5, Saab will hide the same units which propel the sedan: the diesel 2.0TiD, the hybrid 2.0T BioPower and the petrol 1.6T, 2.0T and 2.8T. The engines are linked to the XWD all-wheel-drive system.
As standard features, Saab has fitted the model with an extensive array of eye-catching technologies, like Saab DriveSense adaptive chassis control, adaptive cruise control, Bi-Xenon Smart Beam adaptive lighting, keyless entry and starting, tri-zone air conditioning and a Pilot Head-up Display.
The 9-5 SportCombi is part of what Saab promises to be the most extensive product offensive in its history. As soon as it will be displayed on the floor of the Geneva Auto Show, the car maker will open the order books, with deliveries expected to begin in fall.
“The launch of the 9-5 SportCombi is a much-awaited next step in the roll-out of our new product offensive,” said Saab Automobile Jan Åke Jonsson. “It will take Saab back into the large wagon segment where we have established a strong presence in many key markets with our previous offering.”
