Saab is now in the midst of a rebirth process, with the company pushing hard to show the world what it can offer. The latest “effort” coming from the Swedish carmaker is the 2012 9-4X crossover, which made its debut at the 2010 LA Auto Show.

Under the hood of the car you can find one of the two V6 units available. The first one is a naturally aspirated engine with a capacity of 3.0 liters that develops 265 hp, while the seconds has a displacement of 2.8 liter, using direct injection and turbocharging to deliver 300 hp.

Both powerplants work together with a six-speed automatic gearbox, sending the power to all four wheels via Saab’s XWD system. A diesel engine is also expected to join the line-up in the future.

The company’s designers have worked to offer the vehicle clean lines, offering it multiple traditional Saab elements. The bodywork doesn’t come with any special off-road protection elements. However, the lower body has received a dark protective layer. The standard vehicle rides on 18-inch, six-spoke alloy rims, while the Aero model brings 20-inch nine-spoke turbine rims, together with bi-xenon cornering headlights and black elements for the front fascia.

The vehicle comes a long list of comfort features, also allowing customers to choose between multiple optional goodies, such as a 8-inch, touchscreen hard disk navigation system.

The Saab 9-4 is scheduled to enter the North American market in May next year and reach Europe and other markets in August. The pricing hasn’t been announced yet.
